Much of the world has banned the weapons for their dangers to civilians, but the U.S. is among a handful of states resisting their abolition.

Last week, representatives from 130 governments gathered in Beirut for the second meeting of parties to the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM), a 2008 treaty signed by 90 countries in an attempt to abolish cluster munitions. After years of failed attempts to roll back these weapons, the CCM attempts a new approach to limiting cluster munitions, bombs that open mid-flight to release smaller bombs (known as submunitions) over a wide area.

Manchester United with eight goals stun Arsenal

Manchester United managed to destroy eight goals past Arsenal Gunners at Old Trafford was shaken today, ran out clear 8-2 winners.

Wayne Rooney runs away with the matchball, after scoring the 150th Red Devils, then added two more after half-time to complete a hat-trick. But Rooney's effort does not even account for half of United's tally surprise when they scored eight for the first time since 1999.

Danny Welbeck, Ashley Young, Nani and Park Ji-Sung also found the net before completing victory with a second Young. It was the worst defeat ever against United and Arsenal the first time they had conceded eight league games since 1896.

This victory has established a caste in the Premier League as Manchester United football team who in fear of his opponents and also raised Danny Welbeck as a talented young striker who owned MU

It’s kickoff time for U.S. football searches

Fall means lots of things in the United States: leaves changing colors, apple picking, back to school and...football. This weekend, the National Football League (NFL) starts its season with a bang, with 15 games on Sunday and Monday. College and high school football are already underway and fans all across the country are tuning in, getting excited and rooting for their teams—in person, on television and online. As a Notre Dame alum (class of '87), the ups (and the recent downs) of Fighting Irish football are always a big part of my fall weekends. Regardless of your alma mater or hometown team, one thing is certain: American football is a big deal across the United States. Ahead of most of this week's kickoffs, we thought it would be fun to take a peek at some of the football search trends from around the country.

There's some debate as to what is more popular: professional (NFL) football or college football. Search queries make it clear that in spite of the [nfl lockout], the pro game and [nfl] is consistently more popular for U.S. searchers than all of [college football].

The New Jersey police officer responsible for capturing five Israelis who filmed and celebrated while the World Trade Center towers burned has broken his silence, agreeing to a Sept. 16 exclusive interview with AMERICAN FREE PRESS.

As AFP readers are no doubt aware, these are the same Israelis who were working under the direction of Urban Moving Systems, a Mossad front company at the center of Israeli involvement in the Sept. 11 attacks.

Sgt. Scott DeCarlo has never spoken to the media about the details of that day except for two 30-second cameo appearances in Internet videos from undetermined sources. In fact, DeCarlo confirmed that this is the first, and last, interview he will ever grant in regard to this subject.

DeCarlo revealed to AFP hidden details about the events of 9-11 that mainstream media venues should have uncovered 10 years ago, if not for their near-total blackout of meaningful coverage where Israel is concerned.

Traore: Auxerre was the right choice

Auxerre midfielder Alain Traore has been the revelation of the French league season so far, leading the Ligue 1 scoring charts with five goals after seven rounds of games. The 22-year-old has also replicated his eye-catching club form for Burkina Faso in the qualifying competition for the 2012 CAF African Cup of Nations, top-scoring for the Stallions as they sealed a place in the continental finals.

Understandably, national coach Paulo Duarte is delighted with Traore's recent displays: "I've been pushing him to produce this kind of form for the last two and a half years," said the Portuguese boss. "He had the quality but lacked maturity. He wasn't getting many games at Auxerre, but he still turned up for the national side believing he was a star when he was no such thing. I hope he carries on this way, though I doubt he'll end the season as top scorer. [...]
